I live in CA.  Is any of this money going to go to the states?  Because CA is in terrible shape and the republicans want to make big cuts in welfare and disability benefits. And make state employees take 2 days a month off with no pay.

th states.  Medicaid and education funds.  That may free up some money elsewhere.  It won't solve California's crisis, but it will help.

Cal. needs to repeal the sysfunctional Howard jarvis 1978 Referendum that set the vote to be 2/3 in teh Legislature to increase taxes.

I was in the 4th grade when this happened.  I remember marching against the bill with my mother.

I remember it all too well. My mother actually voted for it, saying that if it didn't pass we'd lose the house due to the inability to afford the property taxes. (Note: My mother was a single parent making her living singing in churches, not the world's most lucrative profession.) I remember all the politicians saying that if it passed, they'd take their revenge by cutting the programs that people most valued first. Sure enough, it passed, and the next thing we knew they had carried out their revenge. Social programs, libraries, arts programs in schools, those sorts of things started to take the hit. The libraries started operating at vastly reduced hours. That sort of thing.
