MBT shoes.  After 2 years of orthotics, I finally tried a pair. Instant better. 6 weeks and no more pain ever.  3 months and I could wear dress shoes for half a day.

You need to get fitted for your first pair at a real store where you can get the right size--but as long as you stay with the same size, you can then order sight unseen. I got mine at Mall of America--and tried them out by walking all three levels. When I bought sandals, I tried a smaller size and did the same thing--walked the mall--then exchanged for the old size--which were perfect!

Consider--at $60 each foot copay for the orthotics, plus $150 for shoes they'd fit in--the $250 for the MBTs starts seeming kinda reasonable.  But now that I know, I'm gonna order from the link!

The closest place for me to get them looks like Columbus.  Maybe next time I'm in the area I'll try to get a pair.

I tried all sorts of shoes.  New Balance didn't help a bit, though everyone recommended them.  I ended up walking on the outside of the ball of my foot and I hurt even worse.  I had Nike crosstrainers, Reeboks, you name it.

The best shoes I found for me, by accident, were DC Shoes.  I wore a pair of my teenaged son's (larger) shoes around the house one Saturday because my feet were swollen and they felt pretty good. I bought a pair 1/2 bigger than I needed to fit all the insoles and other crap I have to use. They aren't even a walking shoe.  They're made for skaters.
