normally I'd reflexively say fu, but thanks too for the diary.
The State Lands are littered with 150 years of failed energy projects, with the taxpayers paying for any cleanup. These projects were 'sold' with the samew snake oil used to sell these projects today, green, red , or blue.
The Santa Barbara Channel is a showcase for this, the offshore oil platforms are the most obvious, and progress has even gone backwards recently with the State Lands Commission ruling against a progressive deal, I'd diary it soon if I can.
There was just a huge amount of money (ultimately not the profit takers money) spent capping wells in the El Capitan field, some hand dug in the 1800's.

Each one of these environments has it's own intrinsic values, and any impacts must be evaluated. Costs must be paid by the appropriate parties, profits as well.
You say NIMBY right off you are not someone who has any credibilty with me, and you will have shifted the debate to something adversarial and conflict driven,,,we all suffer from that process.
Hopefully we can make progress in these areas and work to a better future and leave these old ideas, old arguments, and old habits behind.
      Beautiful pictures too, thanks again.

there are trade offs with everything and unlike most solutions this appears to be relatively painless in comparison.

ESPECIALLY when you consider the impacts of just sticking with the status quo.

So, no offense intended or taken for that matter, but we need to think bigger than the impact on the asthetics of our area alone.
