  •  the long waits!! (12+ / 0-)

I also laugh at this notion and pointed out the ridiculousness of it to my right wing friend who used it as a talking point.

I'm a teacher who has quite good insurance coverage.. and when I was told to see a specialist about something, it took 3 months to get an appointment. And, I have heard this story over and over from friends with various medical issues here in the good old USA.

So, the "long wait" thing is a ridiculous argument.

If we reform health care, you will have long waits.

If don't torture, we may not thwart a future attack.

If we reduce greenhouse gas emissions, it will hurt our economy.

If we followed the FISA laws, we cannot listen to terrorists.

If we don't invade Iraq, their oil can fall into the hands of extremists.

If we close Gitmo, then terrorists will radicalize our prisoner population and possibly escape.

If we don't cut the taxes for the rich, no jobs will be created.

If we don't outlaw abortion and gay marriage, God will punish us.

An end to the Bush nightmare is only the first step in rebuilding America.

having to fight her HMO for six months to get a biopsy.

I read that just recently, and I really wish I had bookmarked that comment. There's no knowing for sure, of course, but six months can be the difference between life and death when dealing with cancer. And we know that HMOs deliberately delay tests and appointments to hold down costs.

This is the difference between "waits" in Canada and the US.
