  •  I wrote a novel last year (5+ / 0-)

    Took me six months, though.

I think I jumped the gun.  I plan to hone with short fiction before I try a novel again.

Another thought is to use the short fiction to explore the concept I have in mind for a novel.

It's about a woman with Asperger's who solves crimes with the help of her full syndrome daughter with autism, who is eerily perceptive in her non-verbal, autistic kind of way.

It might be too much, but people keep telling me to write what I know, and what I know is autism.

I think it could be really funny, as well.  That's my hope and goal.

I blog about my daughter with autism at her website

I feel that I should write more short stories.  I read advice from an author to do that - get comfortable writing short stories and then when you move into novels, treat each chapter as a short story to make the whole thing that much less daunting.

I'm concerned that I should focus my energy on short stories rather than on a novel at this point.  But I need some outside motivation and this contest certainly provides that.
