    the point is that the public will be aware that it is the republican obstructing because they would supporting the filibuster.  I guess I was not clear in this article.

      I guess I don't understand how you see this working.  The Republicans don't have to visible do much of anything to obstruct.  The media will report failed cloture votes like this "Democrats failed to get enough support to pass legislation X today, the bill failed 59-41 in the Senate, needing 60 votes to pass."

      I know this because that's how they have been reporting it all through the 110th Senate (2006-2008).  Media matters used to notice these stories all the time.  Remember the attempt to get a timetable for withdrawal attached to the war funding bill?  Harry Reid had Democrats camp in the Senate with cots one weekend, and it did not generate a lot of interest or attention.  

      The public just doesn't care about process issues.  Which means the answer is just to do away with the filibuster, because the public won't care about that either, and any money republicans spend running ads screetching about killing the filibuster will be money wasted.
