Neocons really considered futher right? I am not trying to be picky, but from what I've read they are some crazy combination of lefties that hated the anti-war movement of the 60's and conservatives..

Many places consider them a radical center, or in a class of their own, that hijacked the republican party. I guess I am really just seeing what Kossers think about where neocons really fit on the right/left spectrum.

Several of people have posted about neocon's being further right.

but right now, they don't have much influence.  So in a way, the neocons are the "mainstream" far-right, but not as far right as actual paleocons.

a lot of paleo-cons and progresive/liberal/left can agree on some things such as trade, where they support tariffs for business and sometimes jobs in the country, the left supports them for jobs, and environmental reasons. Paleo-cons generally are isolationist which typically means they oppose war while the left also opposes war because they see it as a tool used by business or maybe because they are pacifists - both see it as typically a waste of resources. Paleocons used to be environmentalists butI hardly see any evidence of this any longer - maybe they are, I couldn't tell. They see it as conservation and stewardship which is not as much a part of Left wing Environmentalism which sees nature as changing and not owned by man, given by god or anything else (although there are forms of ecofeminism and New Agism that reintroduces animism and the concept of Mother Earth as the giver of life). Paleocons are also typically anti-monopoly, anti-Federal Reserve or even anti-bank, and the left can somewhat agree on those things as well. Except Paleocons would like to go back to the gold standard.

So paleocons can agree on with the left on some the problems mentioned , but hardly ever on the solution or the reason for the problems. Paleocons also happen to be horribly racist, xenophobic, nationalistic, anti-Communist, classist(either against the elite or happen to be elitists themselves) not to mention homophobic and sexist.

Hard to say who is further right, since the Neocons are willing to play along with just about whatever social norms be they liberal or conservative, being homophobic or supporting social programs - Whatever, just as long as they get to play war. They notoriously don't care that much about ideology. What is interesting is that in practice they are willing to rewrite social norms altogether eg violating the constitution. Neo-cons teamed up with Neo-liberals during the Cold War, which probably was the original legitimation Neocon philosophy.  For as "mainstream" as Neo-cOns are it is hard to find anyone outside of Washington describe themselves as such.

    •  The BBC had a great documentary (7+ / 0-)

on Neocons called "The Power of Nightmares."  You can find it on youtube.

The short answer is that left-right binaries probably can't capture their beliefs.  I'd describe them as radical anti-liberals, but even that's an oversimplification.
