    I didn't realize a U.S. president has the power to make that "declaration."
    Well I bet that would straighten everything out.

    Interestingly, a U.S. President neglected to declare asylum for families on the passenger ship St. Louis (something he actually had the power to do) - sending thousands of persecuted Jews to their eventual deaths in German concentration camps. I suppose those presidential declarations can be hard to come by, at least for some folks.

    With the exception of Britain's sworn enemies, most of the World never recognized America's Declaration of Independence from Britain until its independence was actually secured.
    Maybe it's time for a U.S. administration to afford Israel the same courtesy the U.S. belated received after the Revolutionary War, and even more belatedly, recognize Israel's land gain once that foreign invader had been vanquished.
