    Shades of the Lawrence Welk show, which had as its only Black cast member a man who was a - guess what?

    Steppin' Fetchit Lives.

    How sad this data.  And the saddest part is just this:

      Not like Prairie Home Companion.

      Not like America today.

      But at that point Minnesota and the Dakotas had very, very few blacks. And blacks simply didn't do polka music.

      BTW: Kenny Trimble played trombone for Welk for years and years.

      Wonderful guy. Before Welk, he taught music in Oralndo, Florida. Black kids, too.
