  •  the rhythm method did more than just count days (0+ / 0-)

as soon as science figured out there was more to it than counting the days.

"rhythm method" has been used as a term of art for any method that tries to figure out the safe time in the menstrual cycle, regardless of whether basal temperature and cervical mucus are part of the equation or not.  NFP is an updated version of the rhythm method with a different name, but it is still the rhythm method for all intents and purposes, including the part about encouraging breastfeeding.

low failure rates depend on "perfect use," but given the realities of human sexuality there is no such thing as "perfect use".

my objection to the whole idea is that it treats women's bodies like robots: do this, do that, measure this, measure that, and your body will do what you want.

i am surprised that people who otherwise acknowledge the magnificent design of the human body still imagine that the most amazing thing a woman's body can do could ever be understood and controlled by mere measurements and numbers on a page.
