is to take down what one side says and then take down what the other side says.

But here, one side is saying the sky is blue and the other is saying it is green.

Is it too much to ask the MSM to look up and tell us what the color of the sky really is?

If it were as simple as looking up at the sky, I would do it myself.  It's more complicated than that, and that's exactly why responsible journalists are important.  We need the investigative journalists who actually read the bills and speak to impartial experts to get a sense of what it really says - and to ask where it says it.

I was changing channels last night, trying to find the local minor league team's game.  I came across some right wing talk show from Arkansas that was pushing the birther theme.  I wanted to call up and ask, "Is there any doubt who is mother is?  If not, then Barack Obama is a natural-born American citizen."  They would pull their birther stunt of saying, "She was a minor - too young to pass on citizenship."  And when asked, "Which part of the U.S. Code or which court decision says only an adult can pass on citizenship to their children?" they would be left stuttering nonsense.

That should happen more often.  During the "death panel" controversy last fall, Jon Stewart had on the queen of the death panel talking point.  He asked her for the part of the bill that would create it.  After she finally found it (lots of pages marked, but apparently not the one she thought was so important), he challenged her interpretation of it.  He actually read it on air.  Why do we have to wait for a comedian to do that?  Where are the real journalists?
