  •  Corker is an R but not totally a fool (0+ / 0-)

Don't lump him in with Michelle Bachman and her ilk.  He's an R but he's not brain-dead. Eventually reality will catch up on this financial garbage, and when it does, elected reps may have some 'splaining to do. He is indeed positioning himself for 2012, when he does not want to defend helping financial scammers evade justice.

Financial reform has bipartisan support in many states, including 'red states." The Repub stance, as articulated by Mitch McChinless, is likely to come back and hurt them later when they run for re-election.  Corker is smart enough to know that McConnell is asking him to step in a big pile of doodoo.

GOPers down here may not been keen on Obama--but Wall Street has lost their trust. They saw their portfolios plunge and they're scared.

And there actually is a move afoot among the more "moderate" Repubs in these parts to take their party back. It's very subterranean though.  Some Repub electeds will say privately they don't respect Rush, Beck, and teabaggers. They want to put their peeps back in charge.  It's not in the open, but it's there. Corker is probably making a play for leadership among this segment of the party.
