  •  By relying on the video .... (0+ / 0-)

You lose maybe half to three quarters of you audience.

Most people - MOST PEOPLE, i.e., the vast majority of people you want to reach, THE VAST MAJORITY, don't have connections fast enough to watch this in real time.

And they tune out and to to another article or another site as soon as the video freezes and the little dot in the middle starts spinning.

I know it's the Democratic way to say "We're right, so we don't have to prove it". And this is what gave you the majestic John Kerry victory, and the current wonderful approval ratings of Obama, Reid and Pelosi, but this wild success might be improved even further if you guys simply tried to sell your ideas to people in a way that the VAST MAJORITY of people could access.

Print first. High tech toys as support.

I don't mean to attack you directly, but I've seen hundreds of cases where I point out an article on your site and people say they didn't pay attention because the video froze up and that's all there was in the diary - a video.

But I'm starting to see this more and more. Really good diaries that put up a video and then rely on it for the core argument. And a really large group of people then just tune them out.

I think everyone here should review their diary and ask themselves how it would sell if, within 15 seconds of the start of the video, the video froze for 45 seconds and then started up again for 10 seconds. And then repeated this to the end of the video. And assume that the person you wanted to reach was more interested in being entertained than in spending hours of their own personal time refuting a swift boat attack or assuring themselves that HCR was really a good thing.

I'm not sure how much clearer that can be.
