    I can't objectively answer that.  My impression is that we were a lot more split over civil rights and the Vietnam war.  

    I remember being concerned for my personal safety during some of those times.  I wouldn't be afraid to go to a Tea Party outing.

    Then there was the Civil War thing....  

    I think what's really driving the Tea Party and fellow travelers is mostly economic fear.  These folks are about my age and when you hit that point in your life your ability to recover from a major financial loss is very slim.

    I think what's causing Obama's approval percentages to hang around 50% for, 48% not is also largely economic fear.  It's amplified by his skin color.

    Some of us see the economy coming back because we're looking at the large economic metrics.  Others look only at the people they know out of work, the empty stores in their neighborhood, and the people suffering foreclosure.

    "It's the economy stupid." is one of the most insightful sayings ever uttered.  It's a wonder Ben Franklin didn't invent it.

    That "hopey-changey thing"? Takes a Magic Hawaiian to pull it off...
