  •  Fraud and fiction (11+ / 0-)

The entire economic/political system is a fraud and a fiction, and many people are still calling for a fix to the system. My dire prediction- it won't work.

A deeper dilemma is that people in our culture have become frauds who create fictions to line their own pockets and accumulate what they think is power. In the late 1800's when the Black Hills were stolen from the Sioux Nation, they accurately diagnosed our malady by defining gold as "the yellow metal that drives white men crazy."

Gold/money literally makes men crazy- crazy enough to destroy the environment for financial gain, enslave other people (literally or through wage poverty) to exploit their labor, start wars for control of resources, create a social system based on competition rather than cooperation, create religious institutions that are designed to enrich their leaders, etc.

The answer to this is not political, not about market reforms or regulations, not emergent from long-stagnant religious views. The change can only come from a deep personal and interpersonal realignment of priorities. Obama's campaign of "hope and change" touched the surface of what so many of us feel, and hoped could come through political change. But the real change will only come from deep within each of us.

As Turkana quoted the other day:

    "The future's her,
    we are it,
    we are on our own..."
