    Our pastor's whole homily was about this bit, and about how it directly applies to our sisters and brothers who came here as immigrants. He pointed out that it was not a "suggestion", and that there were no documentation or residency requirements for whom one was to love. A couple of people walked out. (Possibly visitors - we've only been there a few times, so I couldn't really say.) He also noted that these commandments aren't easy, but that the difficulty of following them isn't an excuse to not do so.

    Now - he was one of the people helping organize yesterday's May 1st March for Humane Immigration Reform here in San Jose. I'm not surprised that he spent what was remaining of his voice today making the point - unambiguously - that for those of us who call ourselves "Christian", there's really no other way to interpret that reading.
