Contrary to what other people say, I think many boycotts do have an effect.

The problem is the conglomerates. The few decent companies there are always seem to be snug in bed with the bad companies. Or you boycott one company without an option but to buy from another evil company.

Interestingly, the MO to eliminate true competition is the same for thwarting boycotts. Eliminate the choices...

We really need a web of companies that are not part of right-wing capitalist structure. So that you can turn to alternative companies that aren't simply part of another conglomerate of evil.

Unfortunately, when good companies develop, they tend to sell out to an evil conglomerate.

Not sure if there are any good conglomerates.

    Maybe that's an oxymoron.

What seems more possible today are the geograhpical boycotts. The AZ boycott seems to be working.

And the Glenn Beck boycott worked.

When the village is on fire, a sieve will not substitute for a fleet of fire engines. Sometimes incremental change won't EVER scale to address the problem.

and the limbaugh type megastations pass themselves off as good citizens while acting like paul reveres in reverse.

the national efforts boycotting national sponsors will be less effective than local efforts - on te large scale republican sponsors can always be found to subsidize the tax breaks and deregulation limbaugh and co really sell.

many of their local sponsors are just in it for the volume, or they don't pay attention and believe the ad salesman that limbaugh and co are political entertainers juust trying to sell more of their product, or their ad agencies are giving them the coverage.

few of the local sponsors i've spoken to (and it's easy to talk to the owners and managers) will defend the lies and hate and racism and i suspect a significant number would look for alternatives if they were getting even a few calls asking them why they support the global warming and racism and lies.

and it is ridiculous that students and faculty of universities support those  stations through their athletics broadcasting.

this monopoly is still effective because it is ignored.

Progressives will lose all major messaging battles until they picket the limbaugh/hannity megastations and boycott those stations' local sponsors.
