  •  Many don't care about cute animals, either (4+ / 0-)

Lots of people aren't moved by suffering animals, either, I don't think.  Some people are just short on empathy.  People who tend to blame victims for their problems won't be moved by the oil crisis unless it's more personal than the plight of a distant suffering and dying animal.

All I can think of to wake people up to the tragedy is to find any ways it's affecting our farming, our daily food staples, such as cereals and livestock.

People have exterminated animals since the dawn of time and often see that as the natural way of things.

believe mankind has dominion over the world. After all the bible says so. Scary.

      •  Speaking of lacking empathy..... (4+ / 0-)

I lack empathy for those who cannot identify the suffering of others, humans or animals. To me, they have some kind of mental disorder or something that freezes them in the infant development state of not recognizing other beings are distinct and have seperate emotions. They have the narcissistic selfish view of an infant. Or they deny suffering in others because to recognize their own suffering is too terrifying.

I have no hope for this whole world at all. I can't even fathom peole eating meat when they KNOW the animal was a tortured prisoner it's entire life before being killed. I don't know how that can put that tortured flesh into their bodies! I don't even understand when people throw garbarge out their car windows. The world is humanity's toilet, garbage dump and abbatoir.

My only hope is that in humanitys overwhelming destructive greed and infantile grasping they sow their own ending so the world can start anew.

It's seems a might cynical but that's how I feel. I actively combat this destructive force (i don't own a car, cycle to work, am vegan, work at a coop, lobby on agricultural animal issues, etc blah blah blah..), but I am merely a tiny droplet of water trying to go against the whoel tide of humanity.
