listen here bub, insurance is nothing but the third party payment platform for the medical industry.  They take a teeny tiny percentage of the overall healthcare costs.

the u.s. spends, per capita, 300% more per person for 1/10th of the services that the average japanese gets, with the same technology and procedures.

you think insurance reform will address any of this?

no, and in fact, the methodology of this insurance reform was to lock in long term cost increases.

locked in long term cost increases.

thank you with all my ♥ for another outstanding diary.

i find it sad if not hypocritical that so many people who come into BWD diaries to try to stir up trouble quote Dennis in only one area of his life.

why not support him in his other endevors? he's a vegan who is passionate about animal rights. you guys never ever ever talk about that. i love him for that.

guest it doesn't fit the narrative that some people need to live by. which is that obama is blech and HCR sucks.

Dennis Kucinich's speech at Animal Rights Conference

We recognize that we are in a world which truly needs compassion, that we need to extend compassion to one another and to everything living. And that our cause can truly be to lift up this world from a condition of suffering and cruelty to all the creatures of this planet, and through elevating the cause of every creature, we elevate our own humanity.

We lift up the cause of humanity by reaching out and connecting with all things living. It is our sense of interconnection with all living things that brings us to respect the rights of animals, that we understand that animals are not to be lower than, that animals should not have less of a claim to existence, less of a claim to the possibility of survival, less of a claim to dignity.

And your commitment translates into specific action, in raising the questions that must be raised about the use of animals in research, in raising the questions that must be raised about the use of animals in testing, in looking at the conditions in which animals are placed on farms, in challenging a corporate ethic which sees animals as things to be exploited and not beings which in and of themselves have some basic rights.

Your presence here serves as a reminder to this country that our presence on this planet has a higher calling. That we can through our activism, make light in this world, that we can through our activism, lift up the cause of the humblest beings, that we can through our activism, open up not only our own hearts, but the hearts of people everywhere so that our society can become more compassionate, so that our society can be more loving, so that our society can create policies which are caring for animals.

Everyone of us knows a story of animal cruelty, everyone of us knows how in one way or another official policies have sanctioned cruelty to animals. I will work with you, to put compassion into action in our policies with respect to animals in this country and I will work with you to have America set a higher standard, not only for this country, but for the world, to make sure that all of God's creatures, that all animals are given a chance to have dignity in our society and are given a chance to experience the appreciation they should have as living beings."

favor of everything Obama does.  That's no secret.

i find it sad if not hypocritical that so many people who come into BWD diaries to try to stir up trouble

Of course there are going to be people who point out contradictions and have other opinions.

I know you're an ardent supporter of Obama.  That's good for you.  Other people have different values and beliefs and have every right to state them here in this diary.

Tell me how TIRED they are of the constant attacks on President Obama, as one woman told me just yesterday--'what is wrong with those people who are constantly ATTACKING each and everything this President does? Don't they know how tiresome they are and how much we tune them OUT?"

I get that a whole lot, people are sick and tired of this constant barrage of NEGATIVITY against President Obama, of course the Republican & Conservatives can't get enough of what we call here in KY the "Hate Obama' crowd which refers to those people who must do nothing but whine, compalin, 'call Obama out' at each and every turn--people are getting as sick of all this negativity against President Obama.

Everyone have a great day and go spread some positive words around that's what people REALLY want to hear, except for those 'Obama haters' as we call them here in KY, you know the one's who are contantly on a mission of constantly attacking the President as we see them daily here in KY, old Tea Party Rand Paul heaven.

This union may never be perfect, but generation after generation has shown that it can always be perfected. Barack Obama

Of course, what else would it be in a BWD diary.

    •  Actually, insurance takes a pretty big bite (3+ / 0-)

20% of costs, last I read, in insurance company overhead and overhead of others doing insurance company paperwork.

Of course, the Health Insurance Reform bill does nothing to change that.  Medicare for All would have done something (Medicare overhead == 2% last I checked....)

      •  isn't it 3-5% (0+ / 0-)

there is a mandate of how much they can charge and how much they pay out it is something like 3-5% markup compared to payout, can't remember the name of the term.

insurance is nothing but the third party payment platform

Insurance companies are money launderers.  They take our money, wash it and keep too high a percentage, and then use the rest to pay the real medical providers but only if we fight them very, very hard.

      •  what is the name of the term (0+ / 0-)

that compares insurance company payouts compared with the total amount of money they take in?

      •  so don't use insurance. Or just get a policy with (0+ / 0-)

a really cheap package with a $20k deductible and forget about it. Pretend you don't have insurance. Bank the money you would pay for premiums and use it if you need care.

You really need to learn why costs are so high. And what insurance companies do to hold them down. And what they gave up doing and why.

The amount of fact free and wild misinterpretation is dazzling.

Instead of doing your off-topic interrupting any time anything about Obama comes up that doesn't savage him for something, how about reading up on the health care system, its problems and proposed solutions and what is happening now.

    •  you show your ignorance of the (0+ / 0-)

      whole health care system.

You say "the methodology of this insurance reform was to lock in long term cost increases."

Uh, honey, there are going to be increases in what is paid for treatments of health problems. You could stop it by saying no new drugs, no new surgical techniques, no new implants (even though the ones we have are horribly failure prone) no new preventative tests and therapies...

Then the costs would rise as the population getting services rises . . .

And of course new diseases crop up...

The main thrust of the bill is to increase quality and reduce costs. Too bad you are stuck in a propaganda warp.
