Obama's strongest supporters, of which I believe that you are one, should hope that the President fires him publicly and firmly.  For the sake of the President's position as commander and chief, he needs to be forceful on this in order to send the proper signals to the military from top to bottom that this sort of thing won't be tolerated.

The public may not care whether McChrystal is fired or resigns, you may very well be right about that.  But it's not the public that needs to see a display of power here.  For his own sake, the president needs to fire this man, and accompany that with a sternly worded public lecture on the importance of respect of command.

    •  I don't find it necessary to fire him publicly (7+ / 0-)

because Obama's not the ass that McChrystal apparently is-- and he just doesn't seem the type to do something like that. I think getting rid of him will be enough to say he's finally putting his foot down on BS like that because he IS the President. I think too many who may not agree with his politics are mistaking his kindness and tact for weakness.

But I think sending Biden out to take a chunk out of him would be entertaining, and right up Biden's alley. LOL, and there'd be no doubt about who sent him.

      •  I don't give the man a public tongue-lashing, (4+ / 0-)

but a firm and stern statement about this kind of conduct is in order.  Don't let the man resign, fire him and say why.  Obama wouldn't be rude, that's not his style, but firm is definitely in order.

Then you can let Biden go out and rip him to shreds. ;-)

      •  Muszikal, let me try that again. (2+ / 0-)

I had a tooth extracted this afternoon, and between the pain meds and the gas hangover, I'm not very clear in my expression of thought.

I don't mean that Obama should fire him on camera ala Donald Trump (although that would be entertaining in the condition I'm in right now... "McChrystal, you're Fired!")  Obama can fire the man privately, but there should be a public statement to the fact that McChrystal has been fired, not allowed to resign, and why.

        I think that's clearer, but I can't swear to it... ;-)
