  •  Oh joy (3+ / 0-)

Let's see what the corporations do to try and defeat this. If you want to see what the effects of Citizens United could be, look no further than California, where the legislature has been entirely bought and paid for by corporations.

California's entire government structure is royally fucked up for this reason.

is what's been bought and paid for. Have a million dollars and an idea? You can get a law passed about it. California's  Legislature may as well not even exist. The initiative process might have been a good idea at one point, but the idea has been completed perverted.

          on that one. :)

At least when the legislature passes a law we don't have to vote on the same damn prop eight times.

Although in seriousness, I really believe the Cal legislature is effectively neutered by the initiative system. It's hard to introduce, debate, and pass a good law when the first thing that's going to happen after it passes is someone who takes exception to it and has a ton of money is just going to introduce a proposition to do away with it.

Just my two cents, of course.

I have several friends who grow in CA and they've got very mixed emotions about Prop. 19 passing.  They fear large companies moving into this huge market and undercutting smaller growers.
