Posting a Diary Entry
Daily Kos welcomes blog articles from readers, known as diaries. The Intro section to a diary should be about three paragraphs long, and is required. The body section is optional, as
is the poll, which can have 1 to 15 choices. Descriptive tags are also required to help others find your diary by subject; please don't use "cute" tags.
When you're ready, scroll down below the tags and click Save & Preview. You can edit your diary after it's published by clicking Edit Diary. Polls cannot be edited once they are published.
If this is your first time creating a Diary since the Ajax upgrade, before you enter any text below, please press Ctrl-F5 and then hold down the Shift Key and press your browser's Reload button to refresh its cache with the new script files.
ATTENTION: READ THE RULES.
One diary daily maximum.
Substantive diaries only. If you don't have at least three solid, original paragraphs, you should probably post a comment in an Open Thread.
No repetitive diaries. Take a moment to ensure your topic hasn't been blogged (you can search for Stories and Diaries
that already cover this topic), though fresh original analysis is always welcome.
Use the "Body" textbox if your diary entry is longer than three paragraphs.
Any images in your posts must be hosted by an approved image hosting service (one of: imageshack.us, photobucket.com, flickr.com, smugmug.com, allyoucanupload.com, picturetrail.com, mac.com, webshots.com, editgrid.com).
Copying and pasting entire copyrighted works is prohibited. If you do quote something, keep it brief, always provide a link to the original source, and use the <blockquote> tags to clearly identify the quoted material. Violating this rule is grounds for immediate banning.
Be civil. Do not "call out" other users by name in diary titles. Do not use profanity in diary titles. Don't write diaries whose main purpose is to deliberately inflame.
The Guardian has a write up on findings that the majority of the climate change denier apparatus is being funded by a very small, shadowy ultra-wealthy group of billionaires. Try not to faint from surprise here:
Conservative billionaires used a secretive funding route to channel nearly $120m (£77m) to more than 100 groups casting doubt about the science behind climate change, the Guardian has learned.
The funds, doled out between 2002 and 2010, helped build a vast network of thinktanks and activist groups working to a single purpose: to redefine climate change from neutral scientific fact to a highly polarising "wedge issue" for hardcore conservatives.
The millions were routed through two trusts, Donors Trust and the Donors Capital Fund, operating out of a generic town house in the northern Virginia suburbs of Washington DC. Donors Capital caters to those making donations of $1m or more.
Gosh, I wonder who this small, hyper secretive cabal of faceless billionaires who are almost single handedly funding the entire machinery behind the climate change denial movement could be?
A) Concerned ultra-rich philanthropists who remain anonymous because they seek no glory yet are all that stand between the free peoples of Earth and a vast sinister, globe spanning conspiracy consisting of 95% of all climate experts on the entire planet earth and a huge number of publicly funded independent research firms and basically anyone in the world with a rudimentary grasp of science, all of whom have been plotting en masse to... deprive the world of the huge boon of fossil fuels because... they're evil and... oil is.... um, super awesome! And also freedom.
B) Concerned ultra-rich people who make all their money off of the sale of petroleum and its attendant industries and are lying to the world, paying other people to lie to the world, and pushing media outlets who are beholded to the same industries and political parties to lie to the world in the interest of staying super filthy rich forever and pretty much everyone else on Earth can go fuck themselves.
