Posting a Diary Entry

Daily Kos welcomes blog articles from readers, known as diaries. The Intro section to a diary should be about three paragraphs long, and is required. The body section is optional, as is the poll, which can have 1 to 15 choices. Descriptive tags are also required to help others find your diary by subject; please don't use "cute" tags.

When you're ready, scroll down below the tags and click Save & Preview. You can edit your diary after it's published by clicking Edit Diary. Polls cannot be edited once they are published.

If this is your first time creating a Diary since the Ajax upgrade, before you enter any text below, please press Ctrl-F5 and then hold down the Shift Key and press your browser's Reload button to refresh its cache with the new script files.

ATTENTION: READ THE RULES.

  1. One diary daily maximum.
  2. Substantive diaries only. If you don't have at least three solid, original paragraphs, you should probably post a comment in an Open Thread.
  3. No repetitive diaries. Take a moment to ensure your topic hasn't been blogged (you can search for Stories and Diaries that already cover this topic), though fresh original analysis is always welcome.
  4. Use the "Body" textbox if your diary entry is longer than three paragraphs.
  5. Any images in your posts must be hosted by an approved image hosting service (one of: imageshack.us, photobucket.com, flickr.com, smugmug.com, allyoucanupload.com, picturetrail.com, mac.com, webshots.com, editgrid.com).
  6. Copying and pasting entire copyrighted works is prohibited. If you do quote something, keep it brief, always provide a link to the original source, and use the <blockquote> tags to clearly identify the quoted material. Violating this rule is grounds for immediate banning.
  7. Be civil. Do not "call out" other users by name in diary titles. Do not use profanity in diary titles. Don't write diaries whose main purpose is to deliberately inflame.

Ken Cuccinelli
Under a Cuccinelli administration, all regulations against
improper sexytimes will be strictly enforced

What the hell, Ken Cuccinelli? This is how you plan to spend your time?
Virginia Attorney General Kenneth Cuccinelli has filed a petition with the 4th Circuit U.S. Court of Appeals in Richmond asking the full 15-judge court to reconsider a decision by a three-judge panel last month that overturned the state’s sodomy law.

The three-judge panel ruled 2-1 on March 12 that a section of Virginia’s “Crimes Against Nature” statute that outlaws sodomy between consenting adults, gay or straight, is unconstitutional based on a U.S. Supreme Court decision in 2003 known as Lawrence v. Texas.

A clerk with the 4th Circuit appeals court said a representative of the Virginia Attorney General’s office filed the petition on Cuccinelli’s behalf on March 26. The petition requests what is known as an en banc hearing before the full 15 judges to reconsider the earlier ruling by the three-judge panel.

Yep, Cuccinelli is appealing the decision, going to the mat to demand that Virginia continue to criminalize … sodomy. Not just scary gay sex, mind you, but the straight kind o' sodomy as well, and in apparent opposition to the Supreme Court decision saying that what two consenting adults do in their own bedroom is none of the government's business.

Why? Is there a big anti-oral-sex contingent among the Cuccinelli base that he figures needs catering to? Really? Really? You're thinking that's going to be the big hot-button election issue in the next couple years, sport? What's your enforcement mechanism going to be here—and I forget, does this count as the kind of government overreach and tyranny and big-brotherism that Republicans are always talking about, or is that sort of outrage only for when the first lady publicly suggests that kids eat their vegetables?

Cuccinelli is running for the governorship of Victorian England, or possibly Virginia, depending on which paperwork you believe, and is considered a "star" in the party for no clearly discernible reason. A spokesman for his Democratic opponent, Terry McAuliffe, has already come out with a statement calling the episode another example of Cuccinelli "focusing on his divisive ideological agenda."

It seems, however, that Cuccinelli is indeed an honest-to-Gilead true believer in criminalizing all forms of sodomy, even between married couples. After the Supreme Court's Lawrence decision, he's one of the state senators that blocked Virginia from amending the statute so that it no longer applied to consenting adults—thus setting it on the road to being struck down now. His reason? "My view is that homosexual acts, not homosexuality, but homosexual acts are wrong. They’re intrinsically wrong."

Effing nutcase, that one. Apparently this is the sort of "limited government" Republicans are always going on about.
