Posting a Diary Entry
Daily Kos welcomes blog articles from readers, known as diaries. The Intro section to a diary should be about three paragraphs long, and is required. The body section is optional, as
is the poll, which can have 1 to 15 choices. Descriptive tags are also required to help others find your diary by subject; please don't use "cute" tags.
When you're ready, scroll down below the tags and click Save & Preview. You can edit your diary after it's published by clicking Edit Diary. Polls cannot be edited once they are published.
If this is your first time creating a Diary since the Ajax upgrade, before you enter any text below, please press Ctrl-F5 and then hold down the Shift Key and press your browser's Reload button to refresh its cache with the new script files.
ATTENTION: READ THE RULES.
One diary daily maximum.
Substantive diaries only. If you don't have at least three solid, original paragraphs, you should probably post a comment in an Open Thread.
No repetitive diaries. Take a moment to ensure your topic hasn't been blogged (you can search for Stories and Diaries
that already cover this topic), though fresh original analysis is always welcome.
Use the "Body" textbox if your diary entry is longer than three paragraphs.
Any images in your posts must be hosted by an approved image hosting service (one of: imageshack.us, photobucket.com, flickr.com, smugmug.com, allyoucanupload.com, picturetrail.com, mac.com, webshots.com, editgrid.com).
Copying and pasting entire copyrighted works is prohibited. If you do quote something, keep it brief, always provide a link to the original source, and use the <blockquote> tags to clearly identify the quoted material. Violating this rule is grounds for immediate banning.
Be civil. Do not "call out" other users by name in diary titles. Do not use profanity in diary titles. Don't write diaries whose main purpose is to deliberately inflame.
It's difficult to write this knowing people are in a lot more dire straits than me. But I never shared this with anyone before and I think I just need to write it to help me blow off some steam.
Prior to the financial collapse in 2008 things had been going well for me. I had graduated college a few years before and had a very nice job for someone who was in their 20's. I had a new car, no debt, and always paid my bills on time.
I had worked in the financial services industry, which obviously took the brunt of the hit, and was let go from my job in Oct 2008. Since then it is has not been a very fun journey. I have been in and out of jobs (mostly temporary at very low pay) for the better part of 5 years. I have been told repeatedly that I am "over-qualified" or 'under-qualified." To say it has been frustrating is an understatement.
To help with expenses, I have had to sell items that I would never have sold, including a very rare item that I was hoping to pass along in the family some day.
This past spring, however, I got some good news - I was accepted to a good law school with partial scholarship. And with the part-time job I had, paying off the little left over after loans was not going to be a problem. However, with less than a weeks notice, I was let go from my job due to them finding someone full-time. So here I stand again, not being able to register for next semester because they won't remove a $1200 hold on my account. It looks like, since I am not able to get employment fast enough, I will need to sell more of my stuff.
I know this is just another rambling for most of you, and to an extent it is, but after 5 years I am just tired of being beat down. I'm lucky that I have my health and that I do have a college degree. But when you have to fight like this for 5 years and constantly be worrying all the time, it is difficult.
Anyway, thanks for letting me vent a bit. I hope to post more this year than I did last year. I wish all of you a happy 2014.
