Harlem residents were out in force to line the route to the Apollo Theater in Harlem last night.

It was a packed house- news reports said there were 1,400 supporters.

C-span has the full video of his speech.

What has made headlines (and brought smiles to the faces of Harlemites and others) was the POTUS singing a bit of Al Green's "I'm still in love with you"

Lin Manuel Miranda was the MC and singers Al Green and India Arie were the performers.

Those folks who know Apollo culture grinned when he joked that the Sandman didn't come out and yank him off the stage.

Though a few counter protestors appeared, purporting to be from OWS which was covered in the Columbia U student paper friends of mine who attended said they were a very very small group and most did not appear to be Harlem residents.  My girlfriend said " folks were laughing at them".

I had to grin. I know Harlem. I've lived and worked in Harlem. Harlem will back the POTUS in 2012.
