A president from Illinios is re-elected during a contentious time.  There is an atmosphere of white fear and black hope.  There is a sense that this is a turning point in history and a change from yesterday to tomorrow.

Just watched Spielberg's Lincoln.

It was amazing.  It reminded me of Spielberg's 1997 Amistad and Apted's Amazing Grace from 2006. All are must watch films for anyone on this site.

All these films are about the required political maneuvers by determined individuals to end the evils of slavery.

Abe Lincoln, the granddaddy of modern American liberalism, would have been a member of the Democratic Party today.  

It's a quirk of history how the Republicans and Democrats switched ideologies from the 19th to the 20th Centuries.

Anyhow, this film is just today's politics in period costumes.
