Leave it to Fred Rogers…

Fred Rogers quote on scary news stories.
Someone posted that on twitter yesterday shortly after the Boston news broke. I'd been watching some of the news coverage and that was my thought exactly. Bombs go off, and before the echo of the blasts can dissipate, people are swarming to clear debris, tend the wounded, console, comfort and coordinate. We get back up and onward we go.

My other thought, of course, was: "Really, bad guys? You decided it was wise to mess with BOSTON??? Pardon my language, but you're the dumbest motherfuckers on the planet." (Needless to say, I did not learn that from Mr. Rogers. That's a BiPM original.)

I got no formal C&J today. Just some random thoughts on Boston below the fold. Feel free to post yours.

Random Thoughts: Boston

I don’t think I know anyone who hasn't lived in Boston at one time or other, or who doesn't have friends who live in Boston. It was a relief to hear that our friends who live and/or work there, including several Kossacks, are OK.

I believe the next press conference is this morning at 9:30ET.

It's bizarre to see an explosion in front a building you've walked by multiple times.

Online coverage from Boston stalwarts WBZ and The Boston Globe.

From the Red Cross:

Thanks to the generosity of volunteer blood donors, there is currently enough blood on the shelves to meet patient needs. The Red Cross also has the financial resources it needs to support this event right now. We are asking those who want to help to make an appointment to give blood in the coming weeks and months. They can do that by calling 1-800-RED CROSS or visiting redcrossblood.org.
Anyone searching for a loved one should call (617) 635-4500.  Anyone with information that may be of use to the investigation should call 1-800-494-TIPS.

They don’t know yet who carried out the bombing, but I would suggest that we can probably rule out the Amish. The most they ever do is snip the occasional beard.

That poor older gentleman who you see getting knocked down by the blast while running the marathon is 78 year-old Bill Iffrig of Washington state.  And he's okay. People named Bill are known to be pretty tough.

Erick Erickson, the big jerk from RedState (he's spewed some real rhetorical sludge) tweeted
This: "Sorry folks, I'm not interesting in beating up the President today. God bless him. He's got his work cut out for him."  Classy.

Speaking of the president, here's his statement on the bombing.

If I had to speculate, I'd speculate that the media is doing too much speculating.

Fred Phelps' Westboro Baptist Church says it'll be picketing the funerals of the victims. Boy, do they have a surprise coming in in the afterlife.

Today we are all Bostonians.  Don’t forget: if a word ends in "-a," replace it with "-er."  And vice versa.

And just one more…
