OK

I normally don't like to repeat election news that David Nir posts about this story deserved a diary:

Sen. Rand Paul, R-Ky., endorsed embattled former Gov. Mark Sanford’s bid for the 1st District special election.
“Mark has proven during his time in office that watching out for taxpayers and holding the line on spending are his top priorities,” Paul said in a press release from the Sanford campaign.

“What we absolutely cannot afford is someone like his opponent, who will be yet another vote for a return to the Pelosi speakership, for disastrous programs like Obamacare, and for more spending and debt,” he added. “I am pleased to endorse Mark and stand with him in this race,” he added. - Roll Call, 4/30/13

FreedomWorks also endorsed Sanford this week.  So let it be stated for the record that the anti-tax, anti-government Tea Part Senator and the Super PAC he rode in on endorsed a man who was charged with 37 ethic violations:

http://www.nytimes.com/...

Gov. Mark Sanford of South Carolina agreed Thursday to pay $74,000 to settle charges that his personal travel and campaign spending violated state ethics laws, but he continued to deny wrongdoing.

In November, the State Ethics Commission charged Mr. Sanford with 37 ethics violations, including spending taxpayer money on business-class flights, using state aircraft for personal travel and spending campaign funds for noncampaign expenses. The charges surfaced in the wake of his confession last summer to an extramarital affair with a woman in Argentina.

Mr. Sanford will pay $2,000 per charge and avoid a hearing. But though he chose not to contest the charges, he insisted he had been held to a stricter and less fair standard than previous governors. - New York Times, 3/18/10

And look who's going to make an appearance at a Sanford campaign event:

Gov. Nikki Haley will be the special guest at a fundraiser Wednesday in Charleston for Mark Sanford, the GOP nominee in the May 7 special election for the 1st District congressional seat.

The event is Haley’s first with her one-time mentor in his race against Democrat Elizabeth Colbert Busch, a political newcomer and sister of TV comedian Stephen Colbert. The appearance by South Carolina’s first female governor comes as Sanford is trying to overcome a huge gap among women who favor Colbert Busch by 20 percentage points, according to a poll released last week.

The fundraiser is at the home of luxury car dealer Tommy Baker, according to a copy of the invitation obtained by the S.C. blog GOPwrite.com. The event costs from $250 a person to $2,600 for a couple to attend.

“Nikki believes it is critical that South Carolina speak with as much unity as possible on key federal issues facing our state, such as labor union powers, Obamacare and deficit spending,” Haley political advisor Tim Pearson said. “Mark Sanford is clearly the candidate who will stand with our congressional delegation in fighting Washington’s overreach.” - The State, 4/29/13
Hopefully the voters in South Carolina will remember that Haley endorsed campaigned and endorsed Sanford in next's year election.  Hopefully they'll be smart enough next time around to elect this guy:

South Carolina state Sen. Vincent Sheheen, the Democrat who lost to Gov. Nikki Haley in 2010, is planning to take her on again in 2014.
In an e-mail to supporters, Sheheen said he is building a campaign and will announce his bid this summer.

“Our state deserves better than the failed and dysfunctional government it has received from our current politicians,” he writes. “Three years ago, we came so very close to changing South Carolina for the better. Now we can finish the job together.”
Sheheen mentions high unemployment, high college tuition and a hacking that revealed sensitive taxpayer information as areas where he believes Haley has failed. 0 Washington Post, 4/10/13

The special election is Tuesday, May 7th.  Lets make sure Elizabeth Colbert Busch (D) wins this seat:
