OK

Some days are just hard to get through, no matter how lucky we may be. That's when I try to remind myself of the good things I do despite the hard times, and the fun I've had.

For example, it was absolutely exhilarating yesterday to drive through the storm that blew through my area 20 mph under the speed limit...and to have no one pass me!

But that wasn't the only thing I did yesterday. My husband and I helped three baby kildeer running around in the road.

FYI, this is a kildeer: http://en.wikipedia.org/...

Now, normally it wouldn't matter that kildeer are running around. They are, basically, blurs on stilts, extraordinarily fast and all leg. Plus, they can fly, though they often choose not to. But this was a problem because mom and dad kildeer decided, upon seeing my Scary Scary Car, that they should leave the babies in the road and try to entice our car away from the little ones. And the babies were too small (and scared) to make it up the curbs, but instead did intelligent things like tear down the road nearly into a bus, or nearly become a kestrel's lunch.

Luckily, my husband could outrun the babies. While the parents called overhead, trying to lure him away, he rescued the little ones and called the local wildlife rescue for advice.

They suggested that we get the parents' attention, then put the babies somewhere safe for the parents to see to once we let them lure us away. So we did. The baby I was holding wanted to get back up and run at first, but once we showed it the others, it nestled into the group and hid in the grass.

Then the parents led away the scary, scary humans, and circled back to find their babies safe and sound. Good timing too, because the storm was about to break.

So that's what I did yesterday. How about you?
