Donald Trump can't claim to have the most tweeted tweet or the biggest national monuments, but PolitiFact has given one of his favorite topics a special distinction: The claim that the now widely proven and documented Russian interference efforts in the election that put Donald Trump in the office he is in today are a mere "hoax."
Trump continually asserts that Russia’s meddling in the 2016 election is fake news, a hoax or a made-up story, even though there is widespread, bipartisan evidence to the contrary.
When the nation’s commander-in-chief refuses to acknowledge a threat to U.S. democracy, it makes it all the more difficult to address the problem. For this reason, we name Trump’s claim that the Russia interference is a hoax as our Lie of the Year for 2017.
As PolitiFact notes: "It’s not so much that Trump trades in falsehoods—it’s more that he tries to create a different version of reality simply by asserting it."
So congratulations, Donald. You may not be Time Magazine's Person of the Year, but at least you've got this. Maybe you can have the webpage laminated and hung on your wall?
