The least known but potentially most consequential political story in the country this year is that in the year in which Trump is finally on the ballot again is the same year he (along with Ron DeSantis) has killed thousands of Floridians with his incompetence and it’s also the same year Democrats fielded candidates in every single state legislative race on the ballot.
Political scientists and talking heads refer to a construct known as “coat-tails”. It’s the idea that a more popular or resonant candidate can lift their teammates (of the same party or persuasion) above what their vote totals would otherwise be. Frequently, these “coat-tails” are only understood as coming from the top of the ballot to those underneath. There is another school of thought that believes that coat-tails can go and do go in the opposite direction. They’re referred to as “reverse coat-tails”. For instance, a popular and well-known local candidate could carry a Democratic nominee for governor over the finish line by driving turnout in their area and validating that candidate.
If reverse coat-tails are in effect this year in Florida, Joe Biden and Kamala Harris have a whole lot of coats to grab onto. They have candidates in 140 out of 141 districts on the ballot and that one omission is because of a questionable notary seal issue that disqualified a young black woman from running in a non “minority access district”. (Ask more about this in the comment thread. The details are juicy.)
From Sarasota to Tampa, to Escambia, to Duvall, to Miami-Dade, to the Keys, and Lee & Collier Counties, Democrats are on offense and closing on their Republican rivals in these closing days. You know this to be true if only you read the Republican-friendly blog, Florida Politics. Every other day, they are announcing another Democrats’ financial superiority despite Republicans donors’ deep pockets. They may have the deepest pockets, but they don’t have the votes. Democrats’ emphasis has been scoring a vote-by-mail lead and that’s exactly what they’ve done thus far.
In the key congressional race in Florida that could swing the majority of the congressional delegation and render Trump’s strategy of throwing the election to the House of Representatives moot, the Democratic nominee leads 58-32 in the early vote.
We’re on offense, folks! But we can’t let up now. We have only 3 more nights to make sure our candidates get all of the resources we can provide. After Thursday at 11:59 PM, they cannot receive another dollar. Let’s light up these candidates’ ActBlue accounts, DailyKos!
This link will allow you to contribute to 52 candidates at once, or you can pick which ones to help. secure.actblue.com/…

I’m Matt Rogers. I’m a candidate, too. However, my election isn’t until 2021.
(Please do not divert a single dollar you intend to give this election to me.
We’ll take care of 2021 after we win this election.)
