(Promoted from the Diaries - MB)
I wrote in a previous diary entry about True Majority running a campaign to help persuade secretaries of state to enact laws demanding a verified paper trail for all voting machines.
They asked for $50,000 by February 13. I received an email from them today with an update on the campaign and, apparently, they have received $120,000 in small donations from members.
This is great news. Voting Machine Fraud is one of the most important issues facing the country this year. It's been well documented that these machines from Diebold and other companies are very vulnerable to hacks, glitches, crashes and tampering. The simple reality is that votes could be changed and stolen through malicious means. Yet it's simple to fix--we just need a verified paper trail with which to do recounts/audits.
Since Federal legislation has been completely stalled, True Majority is looking to enact laws state by state by putting pressure on Secretaries of state, who typically have control over elections.
[In the extended text is the] email I received today:
I write to thank you for your support of our "Computer Ate My Vote" campaign and to give you a quick update. Your contribution of $10 and those of other members are what is making it possible for us to fight to make sure every vote counts in the upcoming election.
We originally asked our members to give us $50,000 to start the campaign. In response, they gave us $120,000, mostly in small contributions. We seized this greater opportunity and hired two talented organizers. We are now rolling out the campaign around the country and have already targeted 25 top election officers in the states. We continue to add more states, so if you haven't gotten an alert on this yet, you should soon.
The response of our members has been 25 percent higher than usual, showing how important this issue is to them. We've already sent tens of thousands of faxes and are following up with phone calls, news conferences, and coming soon, an advertising campaign. State by state, we will work to ban any machine that doesn't create a voter-verified paper ballot that allows for audits and recounts. As each state joins us, those remaining will feel ever-greater pressure to protect the votes of their citizens.
So thank you again, and keep an eye out for alerts in the coming weeks and months. Together we can win.

Please consider checking out the website and showing your support with a small donation. The site has a lot of good information and background on this issue.
Verified Voting also is a good source to check out.
All our work this year will mean nothing if our votes are changed in November. True Majority seems to have a good start with their campaign. Please help them out.
