Just musing here, but bear with me....
Is it possible that Bush has given up on his own election and is just trying to shore up the base so he won't be held personally responsible for the complete implosion of the Republican party in 2004? His base isn't large enough to win him an election, yet he seems to be determined to offend not only the Democrats but the swing voters as well. Why?
Evidence:
- Blowing off the NAACP
- Talking up the gay marriage amendment personally, a subject he avoided as much as possible until recently.
- Further restricting Cuba travel bans (which seems to be pissing off Florida's Cubans more than bringing them in.)
- Rather than acting "presidential" he appears to spend most of his recent speeches doing nothing more than bashing Kerry and defending his sorry record. Normally this is left to the surrogates.
I know Bush only campaigns in front of friendly crowds but is he also campaigning only in congressional districts that could be in trouble? I don't know my demographics well enough to judge but any opinions here?
