I am a local Dem activist that sits on our local county Democratic Party committee (Duval County Democratic Party - Jacksonville, FL). On Friday we learned Sen. Edwards was coming to Jacksonville on Monday (today). As I am currently the Chair of our Communications Committee, I signed up as a volunteer for the event. Imagine my surprise this morning to get a call from the Edwards advance team asking me to be the local press liaison! They told me I had to report to the local Dem HQ this afternoon to get 'vetted' for this evenings visit. When I inquired what that meant and entailed she replied, "Anyone who will be near the candidate has to be vetted." I didn't want to ask any stupid questions so I let it got at that.
I have no idea what a local "Press Liaison" is either. In any event I feel pretty darn lucky to stumble into this assignment today. I don't know how 'near' I will be to the candidate but I am bringing along my camera just in case. I hope I get to ask him a question or two as well. I'll report back later this evening on how the visit went and how large the crowd was. Take my poll on what my question should be!
