I had an interesting thing happen to me tonight. I was invited to a candidates' forum at one of the black churches here in Tampa. It turned out to be organized by a group called "Pastors on Patrol", and the audience was primarily pastors from the black churches who wanted to see all the local candidates and hear our stump speeches, ask a few questions, and so on (as usual, I smoked my primary opponent and even upstaged the incumbent - he's been avoiding me since our first and to this point only joint appearance two months ago).
Anyway, I get to the church, and it turns out that the pastor had received a phone call from the IRS threatening to take away the church's tax-exempt status if they held this event (which was open to everyone, and was about evenly split between candidates from each party). So the forum couldn't be held at the church (it was not going to be in the sanctuary, mind you). Fortunately, we were able to snag a room at the library a block away, so we went over there and had the forum anyway.
Now, I've been invited to another event in a few weeks at a not-black church (the questionnaire they sent me began with the question "If you had the opportunity to vote on it, would you be in favor of a consitutional amendment defining marriage as solely between a man and a woman?" - and it went downhill from there). Anyone want to lay odds on the chance that that church is going to receive a similar phone call from the IRS?
