Since it annoys the heck out of me that the Kerry campaign has been so lame at answering some of the more idiotic BC04 mockery, here's an idea for a new Kerry ad. I figure it wouldn't run for more than 30 seconds to a minute....any other ideas?
The scene is an off-camera interviewer, asking Kerry questions....
Interviewer: Mr. Kerry, President Bush asked you to answer this question: Knowing what you know today, would you have voted for the Iraq resolution?"
Mr. Kerry: As a president, I would want to have the authority to go to war in order to put some true muscle behind my diplomatic and economic efforts. If I had known, however, that this authority would be used so incompetently, I would never have voted to authorize this war.
Interviewer: Mr Bush makes great fun of your comment that "I voted for the $87 billion to fund the war effort before I voted against it". What did you mean by that?:
Mr. Kerry: I originally voted for a version of the bill that would pay the $87 billion by rolling back some of the tax cuts for the wealthy and asking the Iraqi's to share in the cost of reconstructing their country. In wartime, I think it is important that sacrifices should be made by more than the men in uniform. The president disagreed and threatened to veto the bill. In the end, I did not vote for the bill because the provisions for shared sacrifice were stripped from the second version.
Interviewer: What do you think of the Swift Boat Veterans for Truth ads?
Mr. Kerry: If they are unhappy with my post-war stand against the war, they are perfectly within their right to express their disapproval. But openly claiming they served with me and that my actions were dishonorable is factually false. These people have dishonored the U.S. Navy and all men have fought proudly for their country.
Interviewer: Thank you, Mr. Kerry.
