I saw this in today's
St Pete Times and wanted to share the good news that fellow Kossak
Rob MacKenna has won their endorsement for Supervisor of Elections in Hillsborough County.
The transformation from paper to electronic balloting changes the skills voters should look for in an elections supervisor. Before the troubled 2000 election, supervisors could focus their efforts on soft initiatives, such as registration drives and early voting. Now, many also grapple with technical aspects of computerized voting machines. Hillsborough is one of the largest electoral jurisdictions in the nation; getting it right here is not only complex but also critical to building public confidence in the machines and the electoral process. We believe the self-assured Rob MacKenna, a computer designer and programmer, is best prepared to run the elections office.
Of course, it wasn't exactly a tough call for the allegedly liberal editors to make--his opponent, Jeb! appointee Buddy Johnson, is the idiot who presided over the primary in which an electronic voting machine was left in "test mode" on election day, so that the votes of the 245 people who used that machine were lost.
Other good news from the Tampa Bay area...at least in my neck of the woods (St Pete), the GOTV effort is getting thick on the ground here, what with daily Kerry canvassers supplemented by local Democratic party volunteers, and now Moveon has opened an office downtown and is canvassing as well. I start training for the Kerry legal team on Saturday...I really think we have the bases covered this time out.
