Most polling agencies will let anyone pay them to conduct a poll on whatever subject you want. The blogosphere could commission a poll or polls on various subjects of interest to the community from somebody like Zogby or Harris or Democracy Corps, assuming folks are willing to donate the money to do that.
Who is interested and what questions would you be interested in asking?
Obviously aside from the basic demographic questions, here are some ideas I had:
- Favorable/unfavorable opinion on potential highish 2008 presidential candidates (Howard Dean, Hillary Clinton, etc.)
- Same for targeted high-profile 2006 races.
- Barometers on issues that public polls don't seem to hit.
- Finding negatives/positives for various issues, candidates, parties, etc.
- Opinions on recent scandals such as the more dubious things from the appropriations bill and the Delay rule.
- Questions about the media (e.g. "Do you feel like they are spending too much time or not enough time on issue X?")
