We had a great conversation about a possible boycott of goods, services, travel, or basically doing any type of business with the state of Alabama
here. . Basically, the state's voters decided to vote against an amendment that would rid the state's constitution of segregationist language including refrences to keep different schools "for white and colored children" and refrences to poll taxes aimed at disenfranchising black voters.
I for one think that this type of unconstitutional garbage should not exist in a society that aims to be just, free, and equal. Many in the last convesersation agreed with my suggestion of a boycott of everything Alabama to protest what I view as racism in the state constitution.
I think we need to aim at something similar to what occured in Colorado after the voters there passed the gay-discrimination Amendment 2. We need to both punish the people of Alabama for voting against this amendment, and push them and others to work legal challenges against what is surely unconstitutional hate.
Please comment on any ideas, comments, suggestions, or any thing else you would like to add about the Alabama constitution and the fight against the racist language inside of it.
