Internet is our 'Achilles Heel'
From the Washington Times
Excerpt below the fold!
Former CIA Director George J. Tenet yesterday called for new security measures to guard against attacks on the United States that use the Internet, which he called "a potential Achilles' heel."
"I know that these actions will be controversial in this age when we still think the Internet is a free and open society with no control or accountability," he told an information-technology security conference in Washington, "but ultimately the Wild West must give way to governance and control."

Gee! We better get rid of the major uncontrolled medium for citizens to get and post information, or the TERRORISTS will get us.
Seems like the hallmark of a repressive regime is curtailing access to information (and the Internets).
Of course, his calls for SECURING the networks aren't terribly out of line (if technologically absurd), but I worry that the translation of 'securing' is First, ban all the bloggers
With such successes as CAN-SPAM and the FTC FIGHT AGAINST SPYWARE, I'm not sure how much of a worry this really is...but getting our techno-clueless neocon ReThug majority on the "Turn of the Internets" bandwagon, and there could at least be some major stuff coming down when they expand the Patriot Act even further...
Surprised this hasn't been diaried already..at least my search TENET INTERNET didn't find any.
