Paul O'Neill has been backpedaling so fast and furiously since the 60 Minutes show that you have to think the last stop is a simple admission that Ron Suskind got him drunk and he was out of his mind!
Very likely (in the 99.9-100% range of probability) there's been a massive assault against him behind the scenes, phone calls, visits, arm-twisting, possibly even threats. And now he's not quite so sure of the facts.
CNN: Former Treasury Secretary Paul O'Neill said Tuesday his account of the Bush administration's early discussions about a possible invasion of Iraq has been distorted.
"People are trying to make a case that I said the president was planning war in Iraq early in the administration," O'Neill told NBC's "Today" show.
"Actually, there was a continuation of work that had been going on in the Clinton administration with the notion that there needed to be regime change in Iraq."
All this comes with the reports that he's sorry he made the "blind man" statement and that he will probably even vote for Bush!
He may have thought he's too old and too rich for them to do anything to him. It looks like he's finding out differently.
