On January 29, NC will elect it's state chair. Two years ago Jerry meeks was running for the position. He was pressured to step aside and did so with a nod that he would be next, here in 2005. For some reason unknown to me Gov Easley has endorsed Ed Turlington, who was the campaign manager for John Edwards.
From what I have heard, Ed is a good man who would do a good job. I have met neither him nor Jerry Meeks. I do know that in the past couple of years that Meeks has spent a lot of time, effort and gas money visiting and helping counties get organized and heading in the right direction.
The people I know in our local party say that Jerry is the person who has shown a lasting interest in helping out locally. He has been working for the party since age 13. He embraces the grassroots and new technology. I believe he is the person we need running the NC Democratic Party. Please write or call your local Party Chair as they have a vote for this position. The bigger your county, the more votes it gets, so please let your opinion be known to these people. You can find a list of contacts for County chairs at the link below. Once on this page look on the right side and click on "find your local party's chair"

Everyone should be doing this for their state where the position is voted on. The state chair will have a vote whether we get insider or reformer at DNC chair.
