Remember the Clinton plan for universal health care?
It went down in flames.
That was nearly
twelve years ago my friends.
And no one has proposed such a thing since, outside of a few blessed progressives. Not Kerry. Not Dean.
The failure of that attempt a dozen years ago to bring universal health care to Americans has assured that it will be a long, long time before anyone tries again.
The Rethuglicans recognize this.
They recognize that if their attempt to privatize Social Security goes down in flames this year that it will be a long, long time before they ever get to try again.
This realization leaves them with two options:
They either fold their tent very early before much damage is done, in the hope of fighting another day.
Or they fight to the death, knowing that if they fail they may never get another chance.
Personally, I think that Congressional Rethuglicans, having at least one foot in the reality-based world, will fold early, while Bushco, having the vision that comes from wearing rose colored glasses while having your head up your ass, will press on, forcing Congressional Rethugs to scramble furiously to distance themselves from the WH.
What do you think?
