Tuscarora posted a
diary. She/he thinks "I'm a Republican." No, Tuscarora, you're not. You're brainwashed. Deceived. Tricked.
You and tens of millions of American that voted for George W. Bush are not Republicans.
***While the views below may not necessarily reflect the views of the original diarist, they will be used to display how affiliation with the GOP is not in the best interest of most ordinary Republicans***
"I'm a Republican. I have about a month's salary in savings. That's it. I do have some odds and ends in retirement plans but I need a lot more." But I support a President who wants to privatize Social Security, risking what it should be presevering for my old age.
"I'm a Republican. My kids go to public school. I do care about your kids; that's why I taught Sunday Schools and was a Cub Scout leader. My hope is that my kids will get better jobs and make more money than me." But I support a President who decreased funding for my children's schools by billions of dollars, who cut their Pell Grants, who changed the rules for college loans, so it'll be harder for my kids to get a degree, a good job, and make more money than me.
"I'm a Republican. I have a job with health insurance. My wife is currently undergoing a health crisis that may very well bankrupt us anyway. It sure is sad when you go bankrupt after a catastrophic health crisis." But I support a President who not only refuses to negotiate lower health care cost for my wife, but I also support his plan to limit my wife's recovery to $250,000 should some two-bit, negligent doctor God forbid engage in a little medical malpractice on her.
"I'm a Republican. I'm a Christian. I don't know anything about you." And I support a Party that thinks that Biblical law should replace the Constitution.
"I'm a Republican. It is not only my right, it's my duty to spread freedom and democracy around the world (I agree with Sue on this one)." And I support a President who will wage war after war to "spread freedom" even to sovereign nations which do not want it. And I also support a party that thinks freedom and democracy should be spread everywhere except on American soil.
"I'm a Republican. I live in a beautiful area in Western NY, near three wonderful state parks, more state forests and a fantastic National Forest. I hope they last forever." But I wouldn't bet on it, since my President's Healthy Forest initiative actually means less parks and forests.
I'm a Republican. I'm white. And I see the world in black & white. Either you're with us or against us. Pick your sides and your weapon of choice.
"I'm a Republican. I don't even have keys for all the doors on my house. I have never lived in a house where we locked the doors." Which is why I vote for a party that makes it easier for criminals to get assault weapons, so they can terrorize those who don't have the privilege of not locking their doors at night.
"I'm a Republican. I accept my responsibility to fund the government and I believe we ought to help our neighbors who are struggling. I do believe that long-term welfare support saps people of their will to work in the same way that inactivity atrophies our muscles. I don't know what the solution is but I think we need to search for one." But I support a President who thinks the only ones deserving of long-term welfare are Wall Street Croonies, who continue to receive his blessing in the form of tax-cuts and lax regulation.
"I'm a Republican. I think homosexuality is a sin. So what? I sin too. I don't hate homosexuals." But I do think that homosexuality should be the only sin enshrined into the Constitution. Murder, theft, genocide, war crimes...those are sins too. But I agree with my President that only the Sin of Homosexuality should be engrafted forever into our Constitution.
"I'm a Republican. I wasn't born rich but I was born content." And I support a President who was born rich, filthy rich, and whose actions have made so many non-content and miserable over the last five years.
"I'm a Republican. I'm wrong all the time. I read Dailykos and I read Little Green Footballs and a bunch of other blogs. I don't always agree with what is said on them but I do like THINKING." But I still support a President who doesn't like thinking; he doesn't read newspapers, he doesn't inform himself, and he would prefer a world where there was no DailyKos or "dissent".
"I'm a Republican. My rights and civil liberties should be protected and so should yours." Unless you're gay. Or a woman. Or Muslim. Or poor. I support a party that thinks there is no right to privacy, or a right to be free from torture.
"I'm a Republican. I can't think of anyone I hate." But I still support a party that lives off Hate, a party that operates daily out of hate and vitriol to oppress the weak and empower the rich.
Tuscarora, you're not a Republican. You're deceived, tricked into thinking the GOP represented your values when all it represents at this point is greed, power, apathy, and immorality.
Have no fear. The Democratic Party welcomes you, and all other closet-Dems with open arms ;)
Update [2005-2-26 23:24:49 by georgia10]:: This diary was not posted to belittle anyone, but rather to demonstrate how, with the proper perspective, ordinary Republicans should see that the Republican Party,as controlled by the likes of George Bush, Karl Rove, fundamentalist Christians and neocons, does not serve their interests.
I've also deleted a line about heaven, because in retrospect, it was not a logical assumption to make.
