I have posted this over at my blog, but thought that the subject was important in a more global way, that being the extent to which the propagandization of the American public is being systematized.
What do you do when you are a politician and are trying to enact a really unpopular proposal as a payback to your big campaign contributors but are afraid to take the political heat. The answer, you do what the Bushies do, you create fake news to propogandize the population.
In an
La Times article via
Kevin Drum, and this
SF Gate article it seems that Arnold has been taking lessons from Sith Master Karl and doing just that. The proposal would change the laws that require an employer to give a half an hour lunch break after five hours of work. All of us who have labored in the restaurant or retail industry know that it would end lunch breaks for many thousands of workers. It seems that Home Depot, Walmart and the California Restaurant Association are all demanding a payoff for their sizeable contributions to Arnold. If this proposal was so good, why doesn't he put it in front of the voters with the rest of the power grab he is promoting this fall. Could it be that it will tarnish his luster. Could it be that it will just shine the light on the favors he is dispensing for his friends who so readily slop cash into his campaign trough? Could it be that he is afraid to be exposed for what he is, another money grubbing sleazoid Republican? Does this mean Arnold is just another Girly-Man?
