After the last meeting I organized for the Boston meetup group, I decided that they could do better with different leadership. It seemed to me that I was hitting my head against a wall. The people at the February meetup did not want to be activists, rather they wanted to churn history.
I firmly believe in after action reports and learning from the past. However, listening to the constant drone of voices rehashing why elections since 1980 have been lost seem senseless to me.
I'd rather figure out why recent elections were lost and work toward winning the next elections.
It seems to me that Democracy for America meetups have it right. They have agendas. They have newsletters. They have members who talk to each other in between the monthly meetings.
I couldn't convince anyone in the Boston meetups that is what they should do.
Their attitude was that the election is two or four years away, so what's the use of getting organized now?
I resigned out of frustration. If I wasn't going to be supported, then I will let someone else do it. My time is better spent in other ways.
