Kos and lesser blogs have been effective in creating and spreading the great phrase "101 Fighting Keyboarders" and then challenging the wingnut trolls and others who back Bush to put themselves on the line in the military.
This is getting traction, and puts what is involved in perspective and the other side on the defensive.
We should build on this - I have already started on other blogs throwing this back to the more erudite and/or annoying trolls.
Goes as follows:
What have you done today to help solve our military manpower crisis?
- Have you enlisted yourself?
- If not --
a) Have you posted on one of your wingnut blogs - Free Republic, NRO, LGF, any others - a strong statement encouraging others who might be able to to do their patriotic duty?
b) If you have children between 18-35, have you discussed this with them
c) Same thing for siblings, nieces, grandchildren?
d) What about your neighbors or friends?
e) If you are an employer, have you held a meeting to let them know that you encourage their enlistment, that their duty to their country exceeds that to your company, and your job is guaranteed when you return?
f) If you belong to a church, have you brought the subject up at group meetings?
g) If you are a Republican, have you petitioned your local or state party to make this a priority
h) have you asked your local school district if they could convene a meeting with students so you could emphasize how important it is to defend our country?
i) have you written letters to the editor of your local paper calling on all who can to join, or for those really good writers, asked to write an op-ed piece?
j) have you called in to your local or any national right-wing radio program explaining how important it is for people to enlist?
k) have you written your Represenative or Senator and told him that, if necessary, a draft should be reinstated so that we have a strong military?
l) and if, in the absence of not joining yourself, what is stopping you from doing any or all of the above non-liferisking steps mentioned here?
Of course, across the board, the troll's response will be no to all (if he responds at all).
