Nobody in my office, circle of friends, nor neighborhood is talking about the Rove comments -- or even the Durbin comments for that matter. They're not talking about the war in Iraq or the war on terrorism (whatever that is).
They're talking about Natalee Holloway. They're talking about Tom Cruise. They're talking about Batman Begins. They're talking about the Sox.
For the most part, people tune out political mudslinging. Yeah, listeners to Rush are thinking "yeah, those liberal traitors" but they were thinking that anyway. Frontline watchers are thinking "Rove Sucks" but we were thinking that anyway.
So Kossacks are pissed, as are other politically active Democrats and Progressives. But my best friend (a lifelong Democrat from a family of Democrats) has no idea who Karl Rove is, nor that he's said anything remotely controversial. There are a huge number of people like her.
I don't propose an answer, or even an interpretation. But I get the feeling that the name-calling and apology demanding of late is meaningless to the vast majority of the popultion.
For there to be any meaningful change, we need this group.
Please be gentle with me, this is my first diary.
