Dear Blue Staters,
I am sick and tired of being called unintelligent because of how my state happens to vote in presidential elections. And for that matter, don't talk about what you don't understand. I ran the Kucinich for President campaign in one of these red states, and I met hundreds and thousands of incredible progressives inside Georgia who were fighting for progressive causes, often without any national help who have almost unilaterally given up hope because we live in a "red state."
So congrats! You live in a Blue State! Big whoop. Why don't you come down here and try putting some action behind your words. Us "blue staters in a red state" work harder than you could possibly imagine trying to get progressive ideas out there. I know that it must be mighty difficult to get anything "progressive" happening in Massachusetts, but trying to get my neighbors in Newt Gengrich's old Congressional District to vote for a fairly moderate Denise Majette for Senate (as I tried to do in 2004) might just be a tad more difficult.
This irked me to no end in the Kucinich campaign, and I was the most vocal State Coordinators in the South for trying to get them to realize that we do exist, and that we do not exist solely to provide money to the campaign. It took a lot of hell raising just to get Kucinich to visit the South (had to go up to the National Campaign HQ on a winter break road trip just to start the ball rolling.)
Even though not originally from Georgia (born in Indiana, another "Red State"), I certainly do love my state, even though I detest a lot of what my state does (ala gay marriage amendment.) But keep in mind, when you insult red states, you are not only not doing yourself any favors in trying to "convert" red states to blue ones, but insulting every one of us down here working our collective asses off for progressive ideals. So screw you for insulting us. Screw you for calling us ignorant, calling us unintelligent, thinking that we down here don't work hard enough.
Our dollars are good enough for you but apparently not our intellect. Ever think that this might be why we're a tad angry at the Democratic Party?
Proud Liberal from Red State (Vinings, GA)
