On the 7/24/05 edition of CBS News Sunday Morning, there was a segment featuring Ben Stein giving an open letter to the President.
He started off reiterating the bogus claim that Plame wasn't undercover because she had a desk in Langley... but moved on to make the point that Bush should learn from the Nixon example - protect your political friends at all costs. Stein said that giving up a friend (Rove) to the wolves would only make their appetite more voracious, and soon Bush would find himself fending off the media and the dems by himself without any loyal aides at his side. Stein encouraged Bush to stand strong with Rove and soon this whole thing will blow over.
What struck me as odd was that Stein barely scrached the surface of "legal vs. illegal", much less the topic of "right vs. wrong", and instead opted to present the message of "KEEP YOUR FRIENDS AND YOURSELF IN POWER"...
It's really sad that someone from Nixon's administration hasn't figured it out that when you do bad things sometimes you get caught and you have to face the music (so best not do the shady stuff in the first place).
btw... as a former CBS affiliate employee, I was rather disgusted by this propaganda piece.
